In assembling your suits, you must highly consider the fabrics of your jacket and trousers. Fabrics of jackets and trousers should preferably have a degree of contrast to each other, and in such contrast a sort of complementary mixing is created. Chino pants, for instance, must not be partnered with a jacket whose fabric is also predominantly cotton. For Chino pants, it would look be better if they are partnered with a jacket of thicker material, and yet displays the same kind of casual comfort. Corduroy is a good option.

One consideration in mixing and matching fabrics is the thickness of the material. And so during the fall or the winter season for instance, trousers made of warm fabrics like corduroy are best coupled with fabrics of different material and texture, but exhibits the same warm appeal. One of the best options for corduroy trousers is to match them with cashmere jacket, or blazers made of wool.

Flannel is one of the widely used fabrics in dressy designer pants, and no doubt flannel does not go out of style. While flannel trousers can tolerate a wide range of jacket fabrics, they are perfect when blended with flattering, laid-down materials. And so in wearing flannel, it will be wonderful to pick a tweed blazer as your top.

After choosing the fabrics, it is now then more easier to blend colors. One general rule in matching jackets and pants is to choose jackets that are a shade darker than the pants. With this, the viewers’ eyes are focused on the upper area of the body, which can give them a great perception of the wearer’s full figure.
