Summer is finally here; the weather is warmer and the days are longer. Instead of being wrapped up in countless winter warming layers we can finally wear our summer clothes. While winter might have been spent in thick, opaque, women’s tights for warmth, summer allows much greater freedom of choice. So when preparing your summer wardrobe, which kinds of hosiery should you be looking for?
In summer you want to keep cool; the traditional choice of a pair of light denier, skin-coloured tights is of course always an option. However if you are feeling more adventurous or want to make a fashion statement while still keeping cool for summer there are plenty of options out there.
Coloured tights were popular in the winter, and seem to be continuing in popularity through the summer. Fashion is always changing and evening dresses are no exception. Let’s take a look at this year’s trends when it comes to that all important statement piece: evening dresses.
One of the best places to see the latest evening dresses is the red carpet at various events. Many women’s interest and fashion magazines have pages dedicated to the various dresses worn by celebrities, so this can provide great inspiration for anyone who wants to make an impact in a fashionable evening dress.
This year’s Cannes film festival has just taken place and there were, as always, some amazing evening dresses on display. One of the more unusual pieces on display was the widely discussed Alexander McQueen dress with a gorgeous and bold eagle print worn by Cate Blanchett. Prints continue to be in fashion this year and this is a great example. Layering, especially with soft, see-through layers is definitely one of this season’s trends and again an example could be seen at Cannes designed by Valentino and worn by Evangeline Lilly: a beautiful layered grey floor-length gown. Pastels are popular this season, the paler the better, and judging by the Marchesa dress she wore to the festival, Kate Beckinsale is a fan of this trend. Her dress had a huge ruffled skirt which completed the soft yet stunning look.
With the celebrities’ looks in mind as inspiration you can then hit the high street and may be able to find a similar for your own evening event, knowing that it’s going to be up to date with the latest trends. A lot of high street stores draw inspiration from these red carpet events so similar evening dresses are nearly always available and using a little creativity in terms of accessories you can create your own unique take on the fashions.
